How Consent and Session Recordings Work

Please note: This feature is only available only for U.S.-based adults participating in adult therapy, coaching, or medication management.

At Spring Health, you are always in control of your data. Assisted Provider Documentation is designed to enhance your experience, but it is entirely optional.

How Consent Works

We believe in active consent, meaning we will never record a session "in the background" without your knowledge.

  • Mutual Agreement: A recording only begins if both you and your provider provide explicit consent at the start of the session.
  • Session-by-Session Choice: You will see a prompt at the start of every eligible session. You can choose to consent one week and decline the next—the choice is yours every time.
  • Total Control: Even after saying "yes," both you and your provider have the power to withdraw consent, pause, or stop the recording at any point during the conversation.
  • No Impact on Care: If you prefer not to be recorded, simply select "no." Your session will proceed exactly as usual, and your care will not be affected.

Why Consider Recording Your Session?

Recording provides several clinical benefits that can empower your journey and improve your long-term outcomes:

  • A Fully Present Provider: Your provider can maintain eye contact and listen deeply instead of dividing their attention with manual note-taking.
  • Accuracy and Continuity: Automated transcripts ensure your progress is tracked with high precision, helping your provider tailor treatment to the specific nuances you share.

Eligibility and Participation

  • Is it available to everyone? No. Not all sessions are eligible for recording. Availability depends on whether your organization has opted into this feature.
  • Who is eligible? In order for a session to be "recording eligible," the member must be an adult, located in the U.S., and attending an adult therapy, coaching, or medication management appointment.
  • How do I know if I have it? If your session meets the criteria and your organization has opted in, you will see a consent prompt in the waiting room. If you do not see a prompt, your session will not be recorded.
  • Can I change my mind? Yes. You can choose to consent for one session and decline for another. You can also pause or stop the recording at any time during a session.
  • Where does the data go? Scrubbed transcripts are stored in our secure, HIPAA-compliant data warehouse, encrypted both at rest and in transit.
