Building a consistent routine is one of the most effective ways to make progress in your mental health journey. To help you plan your time effectively, this guide explains exactly how long you can expect to spend with your provider across our different clinical services and how to establish a recurring schedule that fits seamlessly into your life.
Appointment Durations by Service
Different types of care require different levels of focus. Session lengths are designed to balance clinical depth, sustainability, and evidence-based outcomes — so you receive high-quality care without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Service Type | Intake Session | Follow-Up Sessions | Explanation |
Therapy (Individual, Couples, or Family) | 55 Minutes | 55 Minutes | Therapy sessions follow a “therapeutic hour” model, allowing time for in-depth discussion and meaningful progress on your treatment goals. This duration supports a thoughtful, effective therapy experience. |
Coaching | 45 Minutes | 30 Minutes | Coaching is goal-oriented and focused on present-day behaviors. These sessions are highly action-focused, providing you with clear steps to take between meetings to reach your personal or professional milestones. |
Medication Management | 40 Minutes | 15 Minutes | Medication management sessions focus on clinical safety and effectiveness. Shorter follow-ups allow providers to monitor symptoms and make precise adjustments once an initial plan is established. |
MHLA Evaluation (if applicable) | 45 Minutes | N/A | An MHLA Evaluation is a dedicated clinical assessment with a certified LOA provider to evaluate the necessity of a mental health leave of absence or accommodation. |
Appointment Reminders
To help you keep track of your upcoming care routine and prevent missing a session, our platform sends automated notifications after you book. Depending on your notification preferences, you can receive email and/or SMS reminders at the following precise intervals leading up to your scheduled session:
- 72 hours before your appointment
- 36 hours before your appointment
- 25 hours before your appointment (the final window to make changes without late cancellation penalties)
Policy on Consecutive Sessions
While we understand the desire for more time with your provider, our platform does not support booking back-to-back, consecutive, or extended sessions on the same day.
- Optimal Outcomes: Session lengths are intentionally designed to be the most effective for addressing your health goals. Clinical research shows that these specific timeframes are optimal for mental focus.
- Preventing Fatigue: Consecutive sessions can lead to "therapeutic fatigue," where the intensity of the emotional work becomes less productive over a longer duration.
- Insurance Boundaries: Most insurance providers do not cover multiple sessions of the exact same clinical service on the same calendar day.
If you feel the standard session length is limiting your clinical progress, we encourage you to connect with our Care Navigation team. They can assess your situation and help identify more intensive care options or specialized programs.
Setting Up Recurring Appointments
Consistency is key to personal growth. To help you maintain a regular care routine, your provider can set up recurring appointments so you don't have to manually book each week.
- Collaborate with Your Provider: During your session, talk to your provider about your preferred frequency (e.g., weekly or bi-weekly) and what cadence best supports your care plan.
- Provider-Led Scheduling: Your provider can reserve a recurring time slot on their calendar specifically for you.
- Automatic Dashboard Updates: Once scheduled, these future appointments will appear under your Appointments tab in the Member Portal or mobile app, and you will receive your standard reminder emails for each upcoming slot.
