Mental Health Leave and Accommodations (MHLA) Overview

International Considerations: Access and support for Mental Health Leave-of-Absence processes vary by location, country and region. For members located outside the U.S., please contact your Care Navigator by navigating to your account sign in page and selecting your country.

If you are planning to explore or are currently on a mental health-related leave or accommodation due to mental health-related matters, Spring Health provides a dedicated pathway to help you get the clinical support you need. Through our specialized tools and Care Team, we assist you in navigating the evaluation process required for your request.

Eligibility for MHLA support depends on the organization that provides your Spring Health benefits. Not all benefit sponsors support Mental Health Leave & Accommodation support through Spring Health. If you’re unsure whether your organization sponsors this support, our Care Team can confirm your options.

How the Process Works

To begin a mental health-related leave or accommodation request, you must first create your Spring Health account.

  • If you have not yet created your Spring Health account, follow the steps here
  • If you have already signed up for Spring Health, proceed with the steps below.

Evaluations must be completed by a provider who is certified to conduct mental health-related leave evaluations. If you're currently in care, your treating provider must be certified to complete the appropriate assessment and documentation. Our Care Team can confirm whether your provider meets these requirements.

If your treating provider does not meet these requirements, our Care Team can connect you with a provider who is certified for this type of evaluation. Don’t worry — your existing provider can remain your primary clinician and continue supporting you throughout your care.

What to expect

  • Your organization must be opted into MHLA support.
  • You must attend an MHLA evaluation.
    • The evaluation must be completed with a certified provider; not all providers can complete MHLA evaluations.
    • The evaluation is separate from therapy or standard care
    • The evaluation may come at an additional cost.
  • You must work with Spring Health for ongoing documentation completion.
  • Your leave/accommodations vendor (not Spring) approves or denies the claim.
  • Completion of paperwork does not guarantee approval.

We’re here to help

If you have an existing MHLA case with Spring Health and need an update or have questions about your ongoing claim, please follow up directly on your previous correspondence with the agent supporting your case to ensure continuity.
